The Mexican Americans Prevalence and Services Survey (MAPSS) has been a four-year, large-scale, multi-collaborative research project funded by the National Institute of Mental Health. Dr. Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola is the on-site principal investigator and project director for the nearly $2.5 million study. Christine Alejo-Garcia, shown right, a senior psychology major at Fresno State, is Aguilar-Gaxiola's research assistant on the project, which is the largest epidemiologic mental health study ever conducted with Mexican Americans in the United States.
